As Trump’s Attack on Mail-In Ballots Fails at SCOTUS, Public Urged to Join Organizing Efforts to Defend the Vote
WASHINGTON, D.C.–People’s Action today released the following statement from Executive Director Sulma Arias in response to today’s Supreme Court decision on Trump’s attacks on mail-in voting:
“Today’s outcome at the Supreme Court should send us a crystal-clear message: organize, organize, organize. People should respond to today’s decision by doing what Trump fears most: vote as early as possible in whatever way is convenient, and join local organizing efforts like ours to prepare to defend all of our votes against other attacks.
“Trump’s desperate attempt to seize power by restricting voting by mail tells us that our vote is precious and powerful. He is terrified we will use it to stand up to him and hold Republicans accountable. That means he’s going to try to get between us and the ballot box in any way he still can.
“We won a victory at the Supreme Court today, but the fight is not over. We must be vigilant and plan ahead to defeat the attacks we know are still coming on our right to vote.
“If every eligible voter can vote, and working people exercise that right, Republicans will lose the midterm elections. Public opposition to Trump is at record levels. The war he started in Iran and the cruelty he unleashed at home are causing pain in the lives of working people that’s too deep to sweep under the rug.
“Americans believe that people should choose their representatives; representatives shouldn’t choose their voters. People’s Action and our network of affiliates are doing all we can to help communities gain the skills and power they need to defend our right to vote.
