People’s Action denounces the House of Representatives’ vote to throw 24 million people off their health care.
By passing this health care repeal, the Republican-led House shows it stands on the side of corporations and the rich and against the people whose lives depend on the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, which this bill dismantles and defunds. We applaud those members of Congress who took the side of constituents and rejected the legislation.
People’s Action will hold accountable those who voted for this cruel legislation and we will work to stop it in the Senate. We will work with grassroots groups to call attention to the devastation this health care repeal will cause, and lift up the widespread and ever-growing opposition to this unconscionable legislation.
LeeAnn Hall is co-director of People’s Action. Hall serves on the executive committee of Health Care for America Now (HCAN). She is a national leader in organizing communities throughout the country on health care issues.
Hall issued the following statement:
“Speaker Paul Ryan, House Republicans, and President Trump have moved to take away health care from 24 million people – all for a tax giveaway to corporations and the rich.
“This deeply unpopular health care repeal will destroy Medicaid, hike premiums for people who are older and sicker, and strip protections for people with preexisting conditions. It will kill people that Congress is supposed to represent.
“When these politicians go back their home towns for recess, they’ll face a firestorm of enraged constituents who now know that their supposed representatives don’t care whether they live or die. And those constituents will not forget, forgive, or give up.”
