PLAN gathered to protest NV Energy’s inflated energy bills. Like other “public” utility companies which benefit from state energy subsidies, NV Energy artificially inflates the amount it is allowed by the state to charge as a pass-through subsidy to its fossil-fuel infrastructure in the state.
“I think if we could get to 100% renewable energy, no more fossil fuels, and rates that are manageable for every person, even for the lowest people, we’d be better off,” said Tori Lee, a Las Vegas local and PLAN leader to the local news station KTNV, who covered the event.
Lee also wrote an op-ed, “It’s Time to Turn up the Heat on Monopoly Utilities,” which appeared in newspapers nationwide, including the Reno Gazette-Journal.
