
House Republicans thought they had a sure thing going when they scheduled an impromptu “field hearing” for the Ways and Means Committee in Las Vegas, where they could trumpet the benefits of the Trump budget – such as a temporary freeze on taxing tips – for working people. Instead, the People’s Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) showed up with the Culinary Workers and U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) to denounce the bill.
“This big ugly law isn’t a tax cut for working families – it’s a $4 trillion budget-busting giveaway to the ultra-wealthy,” said Horsford, who is the ranking Democratic member of the committee. “They’ve slashed nearly a trillion dollars from Medicaid, “They’ve slashed nearly 1 trillion to Medicaid, put coverage for over 110,000 Nevadans at risk, (and) cut $11 billion from our state’s health care system.”
