As Republicans hosted what they thought would be an easy win – a fly-in photo op “field hearing” in Las Vegas for the Ways and Means Committee to celebrate the passage of the Trump budget – the People’s Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) joined Culinary Workers and U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford to denounce the administration’s plans for deep cuts to essential services to fund tax breaks for the rich.

House Republicans thought they had a sure thing going when they scheduled an impromptu “field hearing” for the Ways and Means Committee in Las Vegas, where they could trumpet the benefits of the Trump budget – such as a temporary freeze on taxing tips – for working people. Instead, the People’s Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) showed up with the Culinary Workers and U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) to denounce the bill.

“This big ugly law isn’t a tax cut for working families – it’s a $4 trillion budget-busting giveaway to the ultra-wealthy,” said Horsford, who is the ranking Democratic member of the committee. “They’ve slashed nearly a trillion dollars from Medicaid, “They’ve slashed nearly 1 trillion to Medicaid, put coverage for over 110,000 Nevadans at risk, (and) cut $11 billion from our state’s health care system.”
