WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today released the following statement by Campaign Director Sondra Youdelman in response to the Senate Parliamentarian blocking a minimum wage increase from being included in the COVID relief package moving through Congress:
“Republicans will stop at nothing to do the bidding of corporate America and the ultra wealthy. We need Democrats to fight that hard for everyday people. Now that we have the votes, Congress should abolish the filibuster and stop undemocratic practices from blocking bills that would help everyone.
“Also, Vice President Harris has the power to override the Senate Parliamentarian to ensure that a $15 minimum wage makes it into the COVID relief bill. She should turn this moment into a legacy, and support working people across our country who deserve a good, fair wage.”
People’s Action joined One Fair Wage in signing a letter calling on the Biden-Harris administration to keep the $15 minimum wage in the COVID relief bill.
