WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today released the following statement by Health Care for All Lead Organizer Aija Nemer-Aanerud after three Democratic House Representatives sided with Republicans in the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee to eliminate a provision in the budget resolution that would have allowed Medicare to negotiate drug prices:
“In a bald-faced display of corporate allegiance, three Democrats in the pocket of Big Pharma blocked the chance to make life-saving drugs affordable for millions. We’re living through a once-in-a-generation opportunity to win big for poor and working people. Today’s actions prove they want nothing to do with this vision.
“Speaker Pelosi needs to whip her caucus and fix this when it goes to the Rules Committee. The Senate should do everything possible to ensure this critical provision is not watered-down in their version of the budget resolution.”
