WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action Deputy Director Bree Carlson today released the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States:

“The Senate majority has failed the people of the United States. For weeks, Republicans in the Senate have held hostage sorely needed relief for millions of people during a pandemic, and instead accelerated a vote on Trump’s extremist  Supreme Court nominee, just days before an election they know they will lose. This is a gross abuse of the Senate’s powers and of public funding.

“More than sixty million people have already cast their ballot in the election, demanding that their voices be heard. By pushing forward a confirmation vote, the Senate majority has chosen to ignore the voices of voters, their constituents, and the  very foundation of democracy.

“People’s Action’s members will hold senators accountable at the ballot box for stealing a Supreme Court seat.”

About People’s Action

People’s Action is a national network of 37 state and local grassroots, power-building organizations united in fighting for justice. We operate the largest progressive rural organizing project in the country. The Nation called our Iowa presidential forum the “most in-depth, people-powered forum” of the 2020 cycle.
