WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today announced its endorsement of Anthony Joel Quezada to represent Cook County’s 8th District. Quezada is running a movement politics, people-powered campaign and will work to advance the People’s Action People’s Platform once elected. He is also endorsed by People’s Action member organization The People’s Lobby.
“Anthony is a true people’s champion,” People’s Action Director of Movement Politics Brooke Adams said. “Five years ago at our convention in D.C. he announced on stage in front of thousands of our members his plans to run for office, and today he’s following through. He’s shared our struggle and knows the power that the mulitracial working class can wield. We’re proud to endorse him and govern alongside him once elected.”
“Across Cook County, we have seen a sharp rise in poverty, homelessness, and a lack of affordable housing and quality health care, especially under COVID-19. As county commissioner, I will fight to guarantee health care to all residents of Cook County, build more affordable housing, and address homelessness. I will ensure that we have a generational plan to combat climate change and create green jobs,” Anthony Joel Quezada said. “I am seeking the endorsement of People’s Action because People’s Action’s goal, like mine, is to build power for poor and working class people to fight for the progressive change that we need at every single level of government. With People’s Action’s endorsement, I know that we will build the movement needed to transform our economy to work for all of us.”
Anthony was born in Chicago and raised in Logan Square at a time when the neighborhood was still a primarily immigrant and working-class community. As a community organizer, Anthony has united neighbors on the northwest side to secure 100 units of 100% affordable housing in Logan Square, support striking workers, demand police accountability, defend undocumented residents from deportation, and protect homeless neighbors from displacement. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Anthony led efforts to provide high-risk communities in the 8th District with rental assistance funds, food, personal protective equipment resources, and vaccines. In 2020, Anthony was elected to serve as the 35th Ward Cook County Democratic Committeeperson.
People’s Action’s Movement Politics program recruits, runs, and elects progressives into local and statewide offices across the country. Since 2016, People’s Action has helped elect over 380 movement politics candidates. The program focuses on electing women, people of color, and low-income people who are grounded in progressive movement building with our member organizations.
