New York – People’s Action joins our member organizations in endorsing Cynthia Nixon for Governor and Jumaane Williams for Lt. Governor in the New York primary election Thursday.
Nixon and Williams have each pledged to support the People’s Action Protest to Power Platform and promote a bold racial and economic justice agenda that will lead New York’s working families into a future with prosperity for all – not just for the wealthy few.
People’s Action is a progressive, multiracial, working-class coalition of more than a million people and 48 member organizations across 30 states.
A People’s Action endorsement means hundreds of volunteers and members hitting the streets, knocking on doors and talking with voters about the issues and the values of the People’s Action candidates. People’s Action has more than 80,000 individual members in New York who share our values, and value our endorsements.
Progressive candidates have shocked the Democratic Party this year with their sweeping victories. People’s Action supports movement candidates, like Nixon and Williams, who have dedicated their lives to fighting for the needs of the many. Our recent gubernatorial endorsements also include David Garcia in Arizona, Paulette Jordan in Idaho and Ben Jealous in Maryland who are running hard for governor in their states.
“Nixon and Williams understand that racial and gender justice are at the center of an economy that puts people and planet before profit,” said Ryan Greenwood, People’s Action director of movement politics and power-building. “We will work hard with our members and supporters in New York state to elect Nixon and Williams, organizing with them to build a more just New York.”
People’s Action member organizations include Citizen Action of New York, VOCAL-NY Action Fund and Community Voices Heard Power.
