WASHINGTON, D.C.–People’s Action today released the following statement from Movement Politics Director Ryan Greenwood in response to Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., winning her primary campaign for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.
“Rep. Omar ran a people-powered race and got a people-powered result. She put people who are on the margins of today’s economy at the center of her campaign, fighting for a Homes Guarantee, Medicare for All, and bold solutions for climate change. That’s how she beat back a corporate-friendly primary challenger from the right. The multiracial working class has no stronger champion than Ilhan Omar and we are delighted to see her on her way back to Congress.”
People’s Action’s grassroots membership fought hard to re-elect Omar, logging roughly 100,000 calls and texts in Minnesota.
