WASHINGTON, D.C. – People’s Action cheered the initial results of Tuesday’s Pennsylvania Democratic primary. Nikil Saval and Rick Krajewski have won the in-person votes, indicating that Philadelphians are committed to winning criminal justice reform and other progressive priorities in the Pennsylvania state legislature.
“We are feeling optimistic about what happened last night,” Krajewski said. “Our program to organize voters for vote-by-mail was impressive and we’re hopeful that the hard work will pay off,”
Both Saval and Krajewski are longtime organizers with Reclaim Philadelphia, the local People’s Action member organization.
According to The New York Times, Saval won 68 percent of the in-person vote. Krajewski holds the plurality, winning 34 percent of the in-person vote.
“In this moment of crisis, in which our government has declared war on its people with tear gas, Philadelphians are saying enough is enough,” Saval said. “Enough corporate greed, enough racism, enough police violence, enough divestment from our schools, our homes and our families. Philadelphia deserves to be represented by people who will fight for its constituents – for a Homes Guarantee, for a Green New Deal, for justice for all. That’s exactly what Rick and I intend to do”
