OneAmerica launched its 2025 legislative agenda with an impressive Lobby Day in Olympia with more than 250 participants. The group also wants to lock in funding for some of its landmark legislative victories, which include the Washington New Americans Citizenship program, dual-language learning program, Fair Start for Kids, and health equity for immigrants.
A dozen OneAmerica member returned to Olympia on March 1 for a hearing of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, to support creating a wage replacement system for undocumented workers. More than 400 people sent emails to their legislators and made calls to committee members in support of the measure.
While this OA-authored bill was ultimately not scheduled for a vote and so will not be enacted this year, the group remains undeterred in their fight to defend the rights of immigrant communities.
“We’ll be back next year to keep fighting to expand the safety net for undocumented workers,” OneAmerica said in a statement. “We aren’t going to stop fighting.”
