Every month People’s Action shares the latest victories,
campaigns and events from our member groups

No kings. No ICE raids. No troops in the streets. No illegal detentions or family separations. No cuts to lifesaving medical care. No wars.

We know what we don’t want to happen, because we see it all around us. We have a president who terrorizes our neighbors, orders troops to occupy our second-largest city, and demands a $45-million-dollar parade for his birthday, all while he plans cuts to health care and food to line his own pockets.

None of this is right. But if this is not what we want to see happen, what do we want?

Even as this administration ramps up its attacks and authoritarian tactics against us, People’s Action members are coming together to show us what they want, in concrete and courageous ways.

We practice solidarity so our neighbors stay safe, and defend our right to demand good government, good jobs, and hope for the future. That’s what democracy means – or at least should mean. And we’re not going to give it up quietly.

In Wisconsin, Citizen Action has been holding the line, demanding Governor Evers refuse any efforts by the state’s legislature to deny medical care while they slash funding for child care and special education.

In Alamance County, North Carolina, Down Home members brought together an unprecedented coalition to defend emergency services, libraries and teacher salaries.

The New Jersey Resources Project and Maine People’s Resource Center are defeating the lies about clean energy spread by the fossil fuel industry the old-fashioned way: by talking to their neighbors. Tens of thousands of them.

And in New York City, as a democratic socialist endorsed by VOCAL-NY, Community Voices Heard Power and Citizen Action of New York won the mayoral primary, the Northwest Bronx Community & Clergy Coalition is celebrating their historic victory, after years of organizing, to turn the Kingsbridge Armory into five acres of affordable homes, small businesses and good jobs with over $220 million in dedicated funding.

This is people power, up close and personal. This is your power to dream, and your power to build. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not real, that you don’t have it, or that you can’t use it.

When those in power strip away our rights and try to silence us, they want to limit our imagination: our ability to create a world that can be more fair, more joyous and more hopeful than the one they want us to quietly accept.

What can we do to meet this moment? Organize. Because we know that only organized people can defeat the rise of authoritarianism and restore the promise of democracy.

Don’t let anyone delay or deny your freedom. It belongs to you.

in solidarity,

Amanda Weaver
