Longtime ONE Northside member and education organizer Ebony DeBerry, who has been a fierce champion for public school students throughout her career, is now running for Chicago School Board in District 2.

ONE People’s Campaign is thrilled to announce their endorsement for Chicago’s first-ever Elected School Board race: Ebony DeBerry, for Chicago School Board District 2.

This is an exciting moment for ONE People’s Campaign because Ebony is a special candidate. Ebony began with OPC’s sister organization, ONE Northside, as a leader, then was hired as ONS’s education organizer in 2014. OPC members rallied to help get Ebony the signatures she needed to get on the ballot.

DeBerry has been a fierce champion of public schools throughout her career. She is the only candidate in the race who has been a student, parent, teacher, and Local School Council member within the Chicago Public Schools system. At ONE Northside, Ebony runs a program that brings parents and community members in to support students and teachers in eight of Chicago’s North Side schools.

“Eboni is walking the walk when it comes to fighting for and providing the resources our students and schools deserve,” says Hannah Gelder, director of movement politics for ONE People’s Campaign.

“I am the product of our public school system and I want future generations of CPS students to receive the same investment and opportunity I had,” Ebony says. “I want every student and every school to have the resources they need to thrive. When we have healthy schools, we have healthy communities.”
