After more than 200 deep canvassing conversations with residents in Aberdeen, Firelands Workers United held a membership meeting planned and led by its core leadership team.
This group of member leaders have been developing as organizers the past year. The team committed to outreach and phone banking, worked with organizers to develop the agenda, took charge of logistics, and led the meeting.
It was a joyful, beautiful bilingual and multigenerational gathering with 93 people–including mothers, workers coming from their shifts in the canneries, and children!
The membership meeting was a powerful moment as Firelands moves into the next phase of growth, continued deepening of its base building, and leadership development–with the hiring of an Organizing Director to join the team!
