New York Republican U.S. Representative Nicole Malliotakis seems not to have a lot to say to her constituents about the $880 billion in cuts her party plans to make to essential services like Medicaid, SNAP and Medicare.

So Citizen Action of New York members and their allies decided to show up at her Bay Ridge offices and demand a meeting. When Malliotakis didn’t show, they invited her to a Town Hall in Staten Island, which is also part of her district. Once again, the MAGA stalwart was a no-show, but constituents were able to share their concerns about the harms these cuts will cause their families.

The empty-chair Town Hall is just one of the many events CANY has been organizing with partners statewide to raise awareness about the planned cuts. These include protests in Syracuse, in Binghamton with Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado and outside of the Broome County Department of Social Services to protest cuts to food assistance programs.
