Connecticut Citizen Action Group (CCAG), part of the People’s Action national network of grassroots groups, rallied thousands in Stamford, Connecticut on April 5 to say “Hands Off!” of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and the institutions of democracy in one of the largest political demonstrations ever in the city.
Tens of thousands of people rallied across Connecticut, from Stamford to Hartford, Norwalk, Middletown, Greenwich and beyond, as part of the national day of protests, which mobilized millions of people all across the country.

In Stamford, five thousand people marched from Mill River Park to the headquarters of WWE, where Linda MacMahon, Donald Trump’s appointee to run the Department of Education, has her offices. MacMahon has pledged to follow through on Trump’s pledge to shut down the Department of Education.

“Let Linda hear you from over here.,” said Connecticut Attorney General William Tong to the crowd outside her office.
“Hands off the Department of Education. Hands off our kids. We are taking the fight to Donald Trump.”
Other officials who spoke at the event include State Representative Matt Blumenthal (D-Stamford), Mary Yordon, President of the Norwalk Federation of Teachers and Vice President of AFT Connecticut, and Joslyn DeLancey, Vice President of Connecticut Education Association.
