Organized by People’s Action Institute, A Delegation of Directly Impacted, Cost-Burdened People Will Confront Reps. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R–Miss.) and Tom Cole (R–Okla.) and Follow Them Into the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Hearing to Take Action
Washington, D.C. – Americans are done. The FY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill guts HUD, and forces families out of housing and into homelessness for the sake of picking working people’s pockets and terrorizing citizens and non-citizens alike under the banner of “national security and border protections.”
People’s Action Institute is confronting Cindy Hyde-Smith at her office (528 Hart Senate Office Building) and Tom Cole at his office (2207 Rayburn HOB Washington) today at 3 pm Eastern.
Our delegation of directly-impacted cost-burdened people will then follow Cole and Hyde-Smith into the THUD hearing room (Rayburn 2358-B on the third floor) today at 5 pm Eastern.
The subcommittee seeks to force families out of housing and into homelessness for the sake of picking working people’s pockets and terrorizing citizens and non-citizens alike under the banner of “national security and border protections.”
This delegation will hold Hyde-Smith, Cole, and the THUD subcommittee accountable for ripping families out of their homes and forcing them into handcuffs instead of solving the housing and affordability crisis that We The People charged our government with solving.
WHAT: A delegation of directly-impacted cost-burdened people are engaging in (1) Congressional office visits with their representatives in the House, (2) peaceful confrontation of current and past THUD committee chairs in their offices, (3) non-violent direct action during the FY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations (THUD) hearing happening now (Rayburn 2358-B on the third floor 5:30 pm Eastern).
WHO: Working class and fixed income constituents from all corners of the country – including the states of Washington, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Texas, New York, and Maine – organized by People’s Action Institute member organizations Firelands Workers United, Communities United for Action, ONE Northside, VOCAL-US, People United for Sustainable Housing, and Maine People’s Alliance.
