WASHINGTON, D.C.–On the final night of the Republican National Convention, People’s Action condemned Donald Trump’s attack on poor and working class people spelled out in the Project 2025 agenda and the GOP platform shaped by MAGA Republicans.
“MAGA Republicans spent four days trying to hide their agenda behind influencers and consultant-crafted speeches, but they have written down their plans to divide, attack, and control poor and working class people,” People’s Action Executive Director Sulma Arias said. “The MAGA Republican platform and the Project 2025 takeover plot make it clear that they are coming for us on behalf of billionaires like Peter Thiel. We must unite right now to organize for our families, our freedoms, and our future.”
Project 2025 is Trump’s agenda to control every aspect of our lives and strip our freedoms. The plan adds specifics to broad proposals laid out in their party platform–things like cutting Social Security, cutting Medicare, and controlling our bodies. This plan is backed by the same billionaires and corporations that packed the Supreme Court with MAGA justices. Their goal is to turn our government, and our well being, over to corporations and billionaires to protect, enrich, and empower Trump and his allies.
“We have a vision for a country where all of us, of all races, genders, and backgrounds can thrive–a people’s economy that serves us, not elite and corporate interests,” People’s Action Movement Politics Direction Marta Popadiak said. “The GOP platform and the Project 2025 agenda are an assault on that vision, and we are going to fight like hell to make sure that nightmare does not come true.”
Describing People’s Action’s plan to block Trump and build working class power, Popadiak added, “We are using the most effective tactic in the most important states. We are moving on a plan to have half-a-million deep canvass conversations in battleground states. We intend to be the margin of defeat for Trump and the corporations and billionaires behind him.”
Deep canvassing is a persuasion method that differs from traditional canvassing because practitioners have deeper conversations with the people they speak to, focusing on underlying fears and values to shift hearts and minds in a lasting way. Numerous studies have shown that this tactic is much more effective than traditional persuasion methods utilized by presidential campaigns.
During the 2020 campaign cycle, People’s Action activated 23,000 volunteers, sent 38 million texts, and had 280,202 deep canvass conversations by phone. By the end of these conversations, 48 percent of people moved away from Trump and towards voting for Joe Biden.
“We beat Trump before,” Arias said. “We will do it again.”
