Every week, People’s Action shares actions you can take online and with our member groups

We are 35 days out from the midterms, and many people are days away from losing their chance to vote. We can’t let a single person slip through the cracks right now, because we need to make sure the midterms are too big to rig.

Voter registration deadlines start in more than 1 out of every 3 states this coming Friday. If you live in any of these states, it’s crucial that you check your registration today.

Following Trump’s lead, many states are purging eligible voters off their rolls to try to pick and choose who gets to cast a ballot. If you think it can’t happen to you, I’ve got bad news for you: it’s already happened to members of my own family–long-time voters who consistently show up at the polls. Everyone should check their registration.

If you don’t live in these states, forward this email to someone who does. And then check your registration anyway.

Here are the states with deadlines coming up in the next week:
Friday, Oct. 2 — South Carolina, in-person registration.
Online registration deadline is Sunday Oct. 4, mail-in registration must be postmarked by Monday Oct. 5.

Trump is trying to keep people away from the polls through voter roll purges, new ID laws, and attacks on the postal service. It is more important than ever to stand up for your right to vote and make sure you’re ready and able to use it.
This is how we protect each other.

Thursday at 8 p.m. E.T.: How We Organize Businesses to Topple the Corporate Pillar

The power of the regime is held up by the institutions that provide resources and moral authority to our public officials. We call those institutions “pillars.” In the U.S., one of the most important pillars is made up of businesses and corporations. That means small businesses have a vital role to play in protecting their workers and our communities. They are woven into the neighborhoods where our members live, work, and shop, and their voices carry weight with neighbors in a way a corporate statement never will.

We are calling on all businesses to pledge to reject the Trump administration’s attacks on free and democratic elections and target corporations by signing the Businesses for Democracy Pledge.

Join us Thursday night to get trained on how to talk to your local businesses to help us dismantle the corporate pillar!
Oct. 8: Tell Billionaires, Hands Off!

Our elections, our health, and our daily lives are under attack by billionaires who think government only exists to make them richer. Join U.S. Rep. Everton Blair (D, Ga. 13th) and special guests to talk about what you can to defend our right to vote and our neighbors, win health care for all, and move towards a society with dignity and opportunities for all.

Saturday: Deep Canvass for Democracy

Many people feel disconnected, distrustful, and uncertain. That’s why our ability to engage across differences isn’t just a skill — it’s how we build a democracy in which we all have a say and all of us can thrive together.

Deep canvassing is a tool to build common cause with folks with diverse backgrounds and experiences and win the things we need in our lives. This technique uses curiosity and storytelling to give people a new perspective and energy to fight for change.

Whether you want to deepen connection as a community leader, neighbor or within your own family, join People’s Action Institute this Saturday to learn how to deep canvass.
October Fundamentals of Organizing
Join us for our Fundamentals of Organizing training, a two-day leadership training designed to bring together People’s Action affiliates, their partners, and members of the National Volunteer Program to learn and practice the skills needed to build real power. This training grounds participants in the core principles that turn passion into strategy, relationships into collective action, and anger into meaningful change through relational organizing — the work of organizing  people and resources to transform our communities.

Are You Willing to Fight?

We live in the richest country in the world but working people can’t afford groceries, rent, or health care while some billionaires pay less in taxes than a teacher. Prices rise, wages stay flat, and politicians look the other way and often take money from the same corporations that make life harder for us.

The game is rigged so working people always lose, but we’re done playing by those rules.

If you’re ready to stand up for your neighbors against the greedy and the cruel, sign the Willing to Fight pledge today.
