Every week, People’s Action shares actions you can take online and with our member groups

It’s a big week in the fight for our future.

As Congress heads home for August recess, we’ve got a narrow window to organize, show up, and speak truth about what Trump’s Big Ugly Bill means for our lives. This legislation isn’t abstract—it’s already threatening health care, housing, energy costs, and food assistance for millions of families across the country.

We’re not backing down.

This week, we’re mobilizing on all fronts:
✅ Livestream events to build clarity and momentum
✅ In-district actions to hold members of Congress accountable
✅ Phone banks to reach our neighbors and turn up the pressure
✅ National rallies to demand dignity, care, and protection for all families

Whether you’ve been organizing for years or are just jumping in, there’s a role for you to play. Here’s what you can do this week. 👇
EVENT: Accountability August—Tell Congress What the Megabill Means at Home

Join the Progressive Caucus Action Fund, Indivisible, Popular Democracy in Action, People’s Action, and Social Security Works for Accountability August: Tell Congress What the Megabill Means at Home on Wednesday, July 23 at 1 p.m. ET! Register for this free livestream here: bit.ly/congresscomeshome.

Congress will soon head home for August recess, just weeks after Republicans betrayed all of us with a megabill that steals health care and meals from millions to give more money to the ultra-wealthy. Recess gives us an opportunity to tell our elected representatives about the harm Trump and his cronies have done to our communities and tell them what we need to thrive. We’ll give you the tools to make the most of this opportunity.

Whether you’re a seasoned organizer or brand-new, this Zoom briefing will help you get clear on the stakes and ready to take action.

TOMORROW, July 23, 1 p.m. ET // 10 a.m. PT
We hope to see you there! Register now.
EVENT(s): Families First

On Saturday, July 26, American families in every corner of the country will come together in peaceful marches, rallies and events to say — our families come first, and we will protect each other. We’re committed to ensuring that every one of our friends and neighbors knows they are not alone and hears what’s at stake for families in our country right now.
In all 50 states and Washington D.C., Families First rallies will demand care over the cruel cuts and attacks on families that we’re seeing from Congress and the White House. The nationwide mobilizations are organized by a coalition of unions, advocacy groups, faith leaders, and families committed to protecting democracy, dignity, and care.
All events are grounded in nonviolence, community safety, and strategic protest.

We are coming together to say in unity: our families come first.

EVENT: The Big Betrayal—How We Fight Forward

Trump and MAGA Republicans just passed the most extreme budget in modern history—gutting Medicaid, housing, food assistance, and more, while handing out giant tax breaks to billionaires, ICE and private prison contractors.

But we’re not backing down.

On Wednesday, July 30, a formation of national networks will be marking the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid with a livestream event to expose the truth, share stories from the frontlines, and lay the path forward. This is our moment of meaning-making and movement-building. We’ll break down what’s in the bill, who’s behind it, and how we fight forward.

ACTION: Demand Homes, Not Handcuffs

Our country is facing the worst housing emergency since the Great Depression. Families everywhere are struggling to keep a roof over their heads—and now, Trump wants to make it worse.

This Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committee will vote on his cruel proposal to slash HUD by $33.6 billion—a 44% cut that would gut rent subsidies, eliminate housing vouchers, and put 9 million people at risk of homelessness. Kids, elders, people with disabilities, and working-class families are all in the crosshairs.

We need real solutions—not more pain. The Homes for All Act, introduced by Rep. Ilhan Omar, would invest $1 trillion to build 12 million new safe, affordable homes.

Tell your members of Congress: Reject Trump’s cuts. Pass the Homes for All Act.

PHONE BANKS: Save Home Energy Assistance
No matter where we come from, what we look like, or how much money we make, we all deserve clean air and clean water, to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and to protect the places we love and call home for future generations.

Join People’s Action Institute for a Save Home Energy Assistance phonebank, where we’ll talk to constituents in key congressional districts to do wellness checks and have meaningful conversations about how these proposed cuts will hurt our communities. Together, we’ll take action to pressure Congress to stop these cuts and ensure big corporations and the ultra-rich pay their fair share.

No experience? No problem! There are trainers at every phone bank to set you up for success. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or making your first call, you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Take Action: Sign Up to Endorse the Make Billionaires Pay Mobilization on September 20!

This summer’s record heat, smoke-choked skies, and soaring grocery bills all point to the same culprit: a billionaire class willing to torch our democracy and our planet for profit. That’s why, on September 20—when world leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly and Climate Week—People’s Action Institute and our allies are launching a nationwide, non-violent uprising under one banner: Make Billionaires Pay.
