TELL BIDEN: KEEP HEITKAMP AWAY FROM USDA
Former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp is campaigning to be Biden’s pick for the top post at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but her appointment would be a big win for CEOs in corporate agriculture and the fossil fuel industry.
Bayer-Monsanto, Syngenta, and Cargill. Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. British Petroleum and ConocoPhillips. Heitkamp’s biggest donors sit in the executive suites of the corporations who hurt everyday people the most.
Maybe that’s why she voted with Trump 68 percent of the time in the Senate.
The next head of the USDA must be someone who will stand up to corporate abusers on behalf of rural, suburban, and urban America, not a politician who helped corporations capture the government at our expense.
If, like us, you want a food system led by independent family farmers that helps fight climate change, then reports that Joe Biden is considering Heitkamp as a potential Secretary of Agriculture should be a real cause for concern.
Heitkamp has a deep history of votes against the environment and in favor of industrial agriculture. She also voted in favor of the Keystone XL Pipeline and has voted in favor of a bill that would undermine key components of the Clean Water Act.
Biden can do better.
We need a USDA Secretary of Agriculture who will be a hero for rural communities and family farmers — not a secretary who will continue to advocate for the same corporate interests that are causing, and profiting from, the mess we are in.
Tell Joe Biden: Reject Heidi Heitkamp for the next Secretary of Agriculture.
