People’s Action: Thank You, Speaker Pelosi

WASHINGTON, D.C.–People’s Action today issued the following statement from Executive Director Sulma Arias, congratulating Nancy Pelosi on her historic tenure as Speaker of the House.

“Speaker Pelosi not only made history as the first woman to lead the House of Representatives–she paved the way for and inspired many women to run for office. We honor her for fighting for working families, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, rights for women and reproductive justice, and for a more just and inclusive society.

“The Speaker has raised the bar on what it means to be an effective legislator. She played a central role in passing numerous pieces of legislation that expanded support for everyday people. And, even when we disagreed with each other or faced setbacks, Speaker Pelosi made sure we knew where we stood, and we strove for mutual respect and understanding. We deeply appreciate Speaker Pelosi’s commitment to listening to grassroots leaders and partners.

“We thank you, Madam Speaker, for walking a powerful path, delivering many historic legislative wins for working families, standing strong in the face of rising authoritarianism, and fighting injustice.”
