People’s Action: Progressives Should Hold the Line and Refuse to Pass BIF without BBB

WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today released the following statement by Campaigns Director Sondra Youdelman after President Biden announced a new and reduced Build Back Better Act:

“We have a once-in-a-generation moment to pass the boldest vision to build a multi-racial democracy. President Biden was elected on the back of a popular Build Back Better agenda, and it’s critical that we protect this agenda from cuts pushed by corporations and their allies.

“People’s Action members fought to defeat Trump and deliver a Democratic trifecta because we need health care, prescription drugs we can actually afford, and real, urgent action on climate. Dropping these reforms and investments is a slap in the face. Prescription drug price negotiation has almost 90 percent support among the public. It’s a disgrace to drop it to please Big Pharma’s greedy lobbyists and the corporate Dems doing their bidding.

“Our communities need every Democrat in the caucus to do everything in their power to convince their colleagues to make good on their promise, seal the best deal possible, and only vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill once everyone is on board with a plan to pass the Build Back Better Act.

“Democrats need to deliver. Voters who put them in office in 2020 and who will head to the polls in 2022 are watching.”
