People’s Action Statement on Biden and Harris’s Win

WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action Director George Goehl today issued the following statement on Joe Biden and Kamala Harris winning the presidential election:

“This nightmare is coming to an end. Despite every attempt to silence our voices and block our vote, the will of the people won. We saw record numbers of young people, Black people, and people struggling to make ends meet overcome unacceptable barriers to demand a government that cares about us.

“Following the 2016 election, many called for a choice between prioritizing the Midwest or the South. Progressive organizers said that was a false choice, and we can do both. That decision was a damn good one.

“Grassroots organizers came together to defeat one of the greatest threats to our democracy in American history and help elect the first Black and Asian woman to be Vice President. To be clear, grassroots organizations powered these victories. People’s Action mobilized its multigenerational, multracial working class members to call and text more than 47.1 million undecided and conflicted voters in battleground states critical to Biden’s victory—having more than 280,000 deep canvass conversations this cycle. This is the largest deep canvass political program in the history of American politics.

“We expect Biden and his administration to now listen to the voters who elected him and deliver big, bold reforms to rebuild our democracy and help everyday people. People need relief now. This is no time for small ideas.”
