Eight-episode podcast series features interviews on race, class, and more

NATIONWIDE–People’s Action today announced the launch of a new eight-episode podcast series, The Next Move, focused on the opportunities for unprecedented, seismic change in politics in this era of upheaval. Hosted by People’s Action Director George Goehl, the series will feature interviews with experts and organizers on the crisis we face and the roadmap to the other side.

“Since COVID19 hit, I’ve found there was no shortage of people who could tell me how screwed we are,” Goehl said. “But I wanted to talk with people focused on solutions and action–especially in this moment of uprising against white supremacy and racist policing. So that’s what I did. These conversations point the way forward for people looking to build something better in this ultimate reorganizing moment.”

In the podcast’s first episode, Goehl interviews Maurice Mitchell, the National Director of the Working Families Party and the co-founder of Blackbird, an anchor organization within the Movement for Black Lives. In their conversation, Mitchell pushes progressives to get serious about building power.

“We understand, ultimately, this is about power,” Mitchell says. “Us creating power together versus the power-over that they’ve installed. And, this is about victory…And my question to progressives and the left: do you believe in victory? Do you believe that can be in power, or are you comfortable being the safe and trusted opposition? This is a moment where we get to test that out.”

Subsequent episodes will focus on essential workers in the age of COVID-19, fusing race and class in progressive political organizing, housing, and more.

The podcast can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts, as well as several other platforms. Each week’s podcast will be accompanied by action items and suggestions for additional content on each week’s subject, all found at https://peoplesaction.org/nextmove/.

About People’s Action

People’s Action is a national network of 40 state and local grassroots, power-building organizations united in fighting for justice. Our organization recently released a vision for a national Homes Guarantee that has already prompted major legislation from champions including U.S. Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib. We operate the largest progressive rural organizing project in the country. Prior to endorsing Sanders for president, we completed a national forum series that included Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, and Andrew Yang. The Nation called our Iowa forum the “most in-depth, people-powered forum” of the 2020 cycle.
